How do I select the right fabric for my project?

Many factors go into the decision of what fabric you should use:
1) How much will this fabric be used, will it be for low usage or constant usage. Most upholstery fabric is rated with "RUB" rates. A lower number is the low usage rating and higher numbers are more durable.
2)Select the texture of fabric you are looking for, the great thing about re-upholstering is the selection is unique to you. Keep in mind the fabric will larger prints, stripe or plaid can make a difference in the amount of fabric you need.

Why is re-upholstering my project so expensive?
Upholstering is definitely an investment, for many it becomes an assessment of value to life cycle of the piece. Quality, heirloom and great thrift store finds definitely warrant investigating reupholstering.

How the cost of upholstering breaks down in the process:

  1. There is the initial cost of the fabric. This can be purchased from re-Dezygn or another upholstery fabric supplier.
  2. When the piece is received in our shop, it must be prepped with all fabric and staples (usually hundreds) removed down to the stuffing or frame,
  3. The fabric is cut to the frame, analyzing the fabric, matching issues and efficient cutting plan.
  4. Fabric is sewn,(welt, fitted panels, special treatments, in preparation for upholstery application to the frame
  5. Application to the frame
  6. Final production of finishing items: Skirts and Cushions are sewn and fitted
  7. Piece is completed with final Quality control check prior to delivery
